Video Head Impulse Test (VHIT)

VHIT is a new test that provides diagnostic and functional information about the vestibular system. The vHIT derives from the head impulse test (HIT), in which the evaluator quickly moves the patient’s head from side to side while the patient fixates on a point. The evaluator observes the patient’s eyes to ensure they remain fixated throughout the movement. Catch-up saccades, which indicate a vestibular deficit, will be observed if the patient is unable to maintain fixation. This allows the assessment of all semicircular canal and their afferent pathways.
